Yuzuki Honna
Chief Design Officer at Gakugeki Inc.
I got into video production in high school, and to expand my range of expression, I dove into the world of 3DCG.
Creating something from scratch is just amazing!
My Role at Gakugeki
Currently, I serve as the lead designer for the VR-MMO space development at Gakugeki. I am responsible for many areas related to the overall visual design of the space, including PV, UI, and large-scale 3D model creation.
Among these, I handle more than 70% of the visual design, including 3D model creation that determines the "impression" of the space, texture adjustments, and other adjustments and improvements in Unity. I also work with engineers to balance maintaining high-quality visuals while ensuring the processing is lightweight.
With my ability to understand both high-quality design and the basic systems, I am an essential designer for this VR project.
I first joined here simply out of curiosity. I thought VR development seemed interesting and accepted the invitation. However, after experiencing VR, I developed the desire to create a world where I could see my favorite characters right in front of me. VR offers a sense of immersion that allows you to view detailed movements of the character or object from any perspective, enabling a deeper understanding of emotions and expressions.
However, current VR graphics are too low, which prevents a good immersive experience. From this reality, I aim to achieve a more photorealistic experience that creates the illusion of "being right in front" of the character. I want to create a future where people can freely meet their favorite virtual characters in this realistic space. I am not just a designer, but a CDO at Gakugeki, contributing by deeply understanding user experience and designing emotions.
What Expression Means to Me
I Was the "Incapable" Kid
In early childhood, I was slower than others in everything. People often told me so, and my grades were poor.
I realized this in second grade when we had to memorize multiplication tables. We were marked finished one by one; I was the second-last in the class.
That experience left me with a deep-seated inferiority complex.
When I Finally Found Something I Loved
In junior high, I got hooked on math. Partly because I felt I had to do better, but also because equations felt like magic. It was the first time I had something I was good at.
Looking back, I think that period taught me how to logically approach and question problems.
Discovering Video Production
In high school, I joined the broadcasting club and wanted to try video editing. But at first, I wasn't very good at it.
Then I discovered After Effects. Following tutorials, I created particle effects that looked magical—and I was hooked.
That fascination led me to dive into editing, study PCs, and eventually become very tech-savvy.
Time to Create
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my high school closed temporarily. That time gave me the freedom to immerse myself in creation. Every day, I taught myself programming and video editing on my PC.
It was a joyful time.
Believing in Myself
A VTuber I encountered became someone who accepted me unconditionally. Until then, I had no confidence in myself—but through them, I gained the courage to express who I truly was.
Thanks to that, I was able to express what I love and connect with Gakugeki and many others.
Now, I Want to Share My Feelings
Through this journey, I realized the importance of shaping my passions and sharing them. I want to convey emotions that can't be put into words—through videos and 3D.
This is the meaning behind my expression and the driving force in my future work.
Skills
- Blender
- I started 3D with video production in mind but initially struggled. I can model, but I haven't done much with animation or effects. I use this software for model creation at Gakugeki.
- After Effects
- This was the software that first got me into video production. The magical particle effects fascinated me. Thanks to this, I learned how to create beautiful motion.
- Unity
- A tool I've been learning recently due to my current job. I'm still figuring things out, but I'm enjoying it—and it's clearly expanded what I can do.
- Programming
- I can program a bit, but I'm not yet capable of building full-fledged software. I've lightly touched C, JavaScript, Python, and PHP. I plan to learn HLSL to create optimized materials in Unity.
- Electronics
- Just a light hobby—playing around with sensors, mostly. I'd love to IoT-ify things around me someday.
- Server Construction
- Some parts of this site, like videos, are running on a server I built myself. I also built a file server with external access. Since I'm strong in coding, I can figure things out by asking AI when needed.

About This Site
I created this site entirely by myself—from design to implementation. I focused on whitespace and a minimal color palette for clarity.
On the Home page, I introduce my key message to convey my philosophy. In About Me, I structure the content in a logical flow for better understanding. In Works, instead of jumping to different pages, each piece opens in a popup to reduce friction. Tags are used to group works by purpose or software. For Blog, although hosted elsewhere, I fetch articles via RSS for a quick and clear overview, avoiding unnecessary page transitions.
I'd be happy if you find this design easy to view. I want this site to keep growing with me through continual refinement.
